Planning - it goes on and on!
Aside from all the logistics and route planning, the boat needs fitting out for a major voyage: Medical kits (we’ve got a mini Accident & Emergency room on board), spare fuel containers, massive dual water filters to rid ourselves of nasties down to cholera and the like before filling up 700 litre tanks, courtesy flags for the countries we will visit, rigging checks and changes each time we sail, sail hoisting and changes practices in all winds, food storage areas and containers, spare electronics, filters, impellers, starter motors and the like, tools for all events, the safety equipment - everything from the life raft to the grab bag contents, a storage plan for all the spares of everything, a little library of eclectic books to suit all types (no I refuse to spend all day on a screen and want real books), travel vaccinations, insurance, visas, and so it goes on…….
I have a gantt plan with all we need to do - with over 1000 entries. We sometimes wonder if we will get through it all. However, what I can safely say is that the all important food is getting well organised - and most important amongst that, picked up on a quick trip to NZ, is Matt’s Pic’s Peanut Butter - somehow I think he will survive!
